When you were growing up, the chances are that there were a number of things that you liked to do that your parents weren’t so fond of. For example, many kids are constantly told by their parents to, “Stop playing video games and go outside to get some fresh air!”
The funny thing is that many of these activities that parents tell their kids not to do can become professions for their children when they grow up. Here is a look at seven ways you can make money doing things your parents told you not to do.
1. Playing Video Games
Because this is the classic example of an activity parents nag their children about, let’s start with it. There are people who make their entire livings simply by playing in video game competitions. The sport is growing by leaps and bounds every year with some competitions even being televised.
2. Playing Poker
Many parents warn their children about the dangers of playing cards for money. However, as anyone who has ever watched the World Series of Poker can attest, it is possible to become a millionaire playing poker. With the availability of online poker, there are lots of people who can make a living playing poker.
3. Drinking
Another activity that parents warn their children about is drinking. However, there are lots of people who make their livings opening up a bar or nightclubs and serving drinks. You can also open up a liquor store, brew beer or distill liquor to make money off of drinking.
4. Eating Too Much
This is a very popular one that kids all over America are hearing every day. Although obesity is a serious health concern, not all overeating is destructive. In fact, there are competitive eaters like Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi who make their living traveling around the world entering eating competitions.
5. Breaking Things
Parents get upset when their children break things in the house when they are roughhousing or playing games. Kids that have that destructive nature can channel it into healthy outlets by going into the demolition business when they get older. You could work on a small crew that goes into a home and demolishes things with a sledgehammer, or you could go for the ultimate thrill of taking down entire building in a few seconds through a controlled implosion.
6. Growing Pot
Any parent who caught their kid growing a pot plant under a fluorescent light in their bedroom closet would be understandably upset. That impulse to grow can now make those kids a lot of money when they grow up thanks to the loosening of America’s draconian drug laws. There are several states where entrepreneurs can now legally grow marijuana for sale, which is a highly profitable enterprise for those who have a green thumb.
7. Play with Guns
This is one of the most common things parents warn their children about. Many refuse to have guns in the home because they don’t want their kids anywhere near them. However, there are millions of people who make their living by carrying guns in this country. Police officers and soldiers get paid to carry a gun with them whenever they are on duty. You can also make money playing with guns by opening a firing range or becoming a gun seller.
