There are many elements that you need to consider if you want to ensure that your business runs as smoothly as possible and that you will avoid complications/spending unnecessary cash on overheads that you could have cut out.
While there are many factors to consider however, one of the most important areas to think about is your employee satisfaction. Ultimately it is your workers that ensure your business puts out a high quality of work, and that your customers and clients are satisfied with the speed and quality of your service/products, and without your workforce you wouldn’t have a business.
Apart from the fact that you owe it to your staff to make them as happy as possible when they are the reason your business can exist, it’s also a savvy business decision to pledge to take as good care of them as you possibly can. Here then we will look at some ways you can improve your employee satisfaction and avoid anything that could upset or distract them at work.
Being Fair
One thing that can quickly upset your staff and prevent them from working to the best of their abilities is to do anything that they perceive as being unfair. If for instance you are to pay them incorrectly or punish them for something they didn’t in fact do, then they will feel wronged and will be less likely to want to help. There are various ways you can avoid such a situation - for instance by using time clocks to ensure that you pay them exactly for the hours they put in, or by using CCTV so that you can back up the right member of staff based on evidence if ever there is a dispute.
Flexibility
Sometimes you will no doubt ask your staff to be flexible in the name of your business. This might mean asking them to stay late one night because you have a deadline or a particularly heavy workload, or it might mean asking them to change their holiday dates. Either way though, if you expect them to be flexible with you then you should return the gesture and that means making it possible for them tow work from home with a digital time clock set up/video conferencing software, or letting them come in in trainers when they have a swollen ankle.
Incentives and Thank-Yous
Incentives for your staff are a great way to get your employees working better. Not only is this a nice thing to be able to offer, but it will also have the positive effect of making your staff feel ‘obligated’ to a degree and thus mean they want to repay your kindness. Incentives and thank-yous can mean a ‘dress down Friday’ or it can mean a Christmas bonus - anything that makes your staff feel valued.
Office Layout
Your staff need to spend eight hours a day every day in a single room - so make sure that that room is as nicely decorated and as pleasant to spend time in as humanly possible. This might mean having a seating area that isn’t just a chair at a desk (so your staff can recline) or it might mean bringing some colour and life into the office with a plant.
