Deal with Your Rejections: Take the Positives

Deal with Your Rejections: Take the Positives

The fact of the matter is that we will all apply for a myriad of jobs in our lifetime. Some will be successful, others less so but it is how we react to these successes and failures that can help to shape us as individuals and of course, employees. One industry that can be particularly challenging whilst at the same time extremely satisfying is catering and hospitality.

Graduate food jobs make up a significant part of the UK’s recruitment sector and there are some great tips available for those looking to make their mark.
Reasons for Rejection
Rejection, whilst a bitter pill to swallow at the time, can be used to your advantage in the food industry. As many figures from the industry will tell you, learning from this so you can eliminate any mistakes the next time around can be a very valuable process. Often your failure to land a job may have been out of your control due to financial reasons or recruitment freezes. So the message most definitely is to remain tenacious, pick yourself up and find your next opportunity.

Competition
It is a fact of life that there will always be someone out there better than yourself. Many of us will find this hard to accept but this is sometimes the case due to experience, qualifications or things like cultural fit. This does not mean however that you will not be perfect for the next opportunity that comes your way. So, if you did not land your job due to another candidate then it is not prudent to dwell on this.

Not your Day
Finally, we all have off days. Lack of sleep due to nerves, illness or just a bad day at the office can all be factors and this happens more than one would think. These scenarios are character building and the chances are that if you messed up this time, your next interview will go well as you will be determined not to make the same mistakes again.

Take the Positives
So, the message is simple. If you have tasted rejection recently or even some time ago, you can channel this into a major positive and ensure that you pull a performance from the top drawer next time around. There is a plethora of great graduate food jobs and job recruitment sites out there so don’t delay in getting in touch and taking those first steps to a fantastic career challenge.
