
In the 21st century, some job seekers are opting to send out videos to companies as opposed to traditional resumes. This is an especially effective tactic for people with engaging personalities who want to work with clients and others in a business environment.

A video resume gives a job applicant the chance to communicate some things about him or herself that couldn’t possibly be expressed on a traditional resume. For example, an individual applying for a job as an art director at an advertising agency could show some examples of his or her work in full-color on a video resume. Alternatively, with a video, a person applying for a job as a spokesperson for a company could demonstrate his or her talent for speaking in a clear, concise way. A singer who wants a job singing at a particular bar or club would get more attention from the hiring manager by sending a video resume. Video resumes allow a person to demonstrate or illustrate his or her talents/skills as opposed to just listing them on a piece of paper.
Appearance is Everything
Some jobs require that an employee ‘look the part.’ For instance, a man or woman applying for a job as a salesperson at a real estate agency will want to make a good impression on the owner of the agency. In a video resume, the person can dress in a way that shows his or her dedication to looking professional. Or, a woman who wants a job as a receptionist at an upscale spa can use a video resume to show the hiring manager that she has the right image for the job position. An Opportunity to Add That Extra Something
A video resume gives job applicants a unique opportunity to let hiring managers know about their special skills. For instance, instead of just claiming a knowledge of Spanish on a resume, a job applicant can demonstrate his or her thorough grasp of the language. A hiring manager can hear the cadences and pronunciation of the job applicant speaking on a video resume. Of course, this can be done with any foreign language. In addition, if an applicant knows sign language, he or she can demonstrate that on a video. Even if a knowledge of sign language is not a requirement for the job, it shows the person’s dedication to learning a valuable skill.
