Which Method Of Recruitment Is Best For My Organization?
You know how it is, trying to the find the right person to fill a position with your organization can be a time consuming and difficult task to pursue. So what do you first all consider before starting the recruit process?
Here we examine internal recruitment compared to external recruitment.
Speak to employees
Many businesses make the error of not discussing recruitment procedures with current colleagues, but why would you not? Your employees are a valuable asset when looking to gather information on what the job intakes, how it could be designed more efficiently and to what skill sets are necessary to fullfil the jobs specifications. By involving your employees will lead to greater production and motivation as all employees will feel their opinion is vital with regards to the day to day operational aspects of the company. Your current employees will know first hand what the company needs and how best to employ to meet organizational objectives.
Internal Recruitment
No matter how large an organization is, more and more businesses are looking towards internal recruitment to fill vacancies. So what are the positives to doing this? Obviously this process on paper is quicker and cheaper to administer but more valuable than this is the retention of knowledge being kept in the organization. By employing in house you are retaining knowledge management aspects of the organization , which in many cases, take years to be ingrained into the psyche of employees. With other employees seeing that their colleagues have the chance to move up the organization this will prove to be a highly motivating factor for those looking to stay with the organization long term.
Be wary though, although internal recruitment has proven popular in the past, there are still areas which need to be considered with this form of recruitment. In recent studies undertaken, management have reported that internal recruitment can lead to a lack of ‘fresh’ ideas being generated, creating a somewhat stagnant environment to work in. If your company is looking to move forward or into a totally new direction, this could prove difficult.
External Recruitment
As online recruiting continues to grow, so do the organizations looking to use this recruitment tool. For innovating and forward thinking organizations looking to expand, external recruitment is the way to go. By employing from a wider pool of applicants, you are enabling the organization to employ someone who can generate fresh ideas. During this period of austerity, organizations across the country have the cream of the crop to choose from when looking to fill vacancies.
Some may argue that this form of recruitment is a longer, drawn out process, consider though, would you rather spend more time looking for the right person for the job and the organization who in the long term will make you and save you money, or choose from a smaller pool of internal employees? Take your time and have a think.
